Meet The Instructors

A fifth-degree black belt in Kyokushin karate, Shihan Dan has been training in this traditional Japanese karate style since 1971. He has trained under Saiko Shihan Shigeru Oyama, the chairman of US Kyokushinkai, Shihan Kenji Fujiwara, the chairman of the Kyokushin Kan Organization for the United States, and Shihan Tom Meli.

Shihan Dan also trained extensively in self defense under Dr. Dwight Scherban, a top student of Kokondo Karate founder Paul Arel, and applies his knowledge and experience leading our practical self defense courses designed for women, and courses for children.

Shihan Dan brings more than 45 years of martial arts teaching experience. He owned and operated karate dojos in Windsor, Connecticut for 12 years prior to relocating to Florida. Shihan Dan is the Chief Karate and Self Defense Instructor at the Utlimate Martial Arts Academy.

Sensei Susan has always loved the martial arts and has more than 16 years training in Japanese karate.

In August 2014 she tested for and was awarded her third degree black belt in Cromwell, CT, headquarters for the US Kyokushinkan organization led by Shihan Kenji Fujiwara.

Sensei Susan teaches karate and self defense classes and has co-owned the Ultimate Martial Arts Academy with Sensei Dan since 2008.
